Terms of Use
Last updated: August 30, 2026
By using OutTruth ("the service") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. What OutTruth is — and is not
OutTruth is a public-record research and credential-verification tool. It searches official public sources — licensing boards, federal registries, court and county records, sanction lists, league rosters, and public credential platforms — and summarizes what those sources publish about a name.
We do not own the data. Every record belongs to the public or to the authority that published it. OutTruth aggregates and cites these sources for convenience of access; each result names the source it came from and, where possible, links to the official lookup so you can verify it at origin.
Commercial people-directory listings. To help you tell two same-named people apart, OutTruth also queries licensed commercial data providers — currently People Data Labs — that compile business and professional profile data (name, job title, employer, city/region, and occasionally a birth year) from publicly available and licensed sources. These listings are labeled unverified directory listing in every report. A directory listing is aggregated third-party data. It is never a license, a certification, proof of employment, or confirmation of identity, and it may be outdated or refer to a different person.
OutTruth is not a consumer reporting agency, and neither OutTruth nor the commercial directory data within it is a consumer report. Results — including directory listings — must not be used, in whole or in part, for employment, housing, credit, insurance, tenant screening, lending, or any other eligibility decision governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) or similar laws. Using OutTruth for any such purpose breaches these terms and our data providers' terms.
2. Responsible use — your commitment
Public records exist so institutions can be held accountable — not so individuals can be targeted. Before each first search you must affirm, and by continuing to use the service you agree, that you will not use information obtained through OutTruth to:
- dox, harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, extort, or otherwise harm any individual;
- publish a person's identifying information (address, family members, records about them) with the intent or likely effect of enabling harassment or harm;
- discriminate against any person in employment, housing, credit, insurance, or any other protected decision;
- impersonate, surveil, or track a person against their will;
- misrepresent a "no record found" or "unable to verify" result as proof of wrongdoing, or misrepresent a name match as a confirmed identity;
- scrape, bulk-collect, or build a database of individuals from OutTruth results.
You are responsible for how you use what you find. If you cannot make this commitment, do not search.
3. Accuracy and limits
Results may be incomplete, delayed, or associated with another individual who shares a similar name. A match on name and birth year is not proof of identity, and "no record found" means only that the sources searched did not contain a matching record — it is not a statement about the person. Some records (for example, most technology certifications) cannot be read from a name at all and are marked accordingly. Always verify information directly with the issuing authority or court before reaching conclusions.
Fields labeled "User-supplied" are entered by searchers and are not verified by OutTruth.
4. Payments and subscriptions
Some reports require a one-time purchase or a paid subscription, processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled and can be managed or cancelled any time from your account via the Stripe customer portal. Purchases unlock access to a report as it exists at that time; public records change, and re-running a search may produce different results.
5. Acceptable technical use
Do not probe, overload, or attempt to bypass paywalls, rate limits, or access controls. Do not use the service to access sealed, expunged, or legally restricted records — OutTruth only searches sources that publish records publicly, and will never attempt to reach restricted data on your behalf.
6. Enforcement and termination
We may suspend or end access for any account that violates these terms — in particular the responsible-use commitments in Section 2 — and may preserve and share evidence where misuse appears connected to harassment, stalking, or other unlawful conduct.
7. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, OutTruth is not liable for decisions made based on results, for errors or omissions in source records, or for indirect or consequential damages. You are solely responsible for confirming information with the issuing authority before acting on it.
8. Removal, corrections and privacy requests — always free
Anyone who appears in a result may ask us to suppress or correct it, or to tell us a case has been resolved, sealed, or expunged. OutTruth never charges any fee to remove, suppress, correct, or expedite removal of information about a person, and never solicits payment in response to such a request. See Removal, corrections & privacy requests.
An arrest, booking, filing, or docket entry is not a conviction, and OutTruth does not present it as one.
9. Data we will not use
OutTruth reads records that the issuing authority publishes publicly, plus licensed business-profile data from commercial providers such as People Data Labs. We do not use sealed or expunged records, driver or motor-vehicle records protected by the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, financial account data protected by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, credit files or credit-header data, medical records, biometric identifiers, or any data obtained by bypassing a login, paywall, privacy setting, or a source's technical restrictions. Where a source's terms restrict automated access, we link to its official lookup instead of reproducing it.
OutTruth may not be used to search a minor, and social security numbers, full government identifiers, and financial account numbers are never collected or displayed. Commercial directory data is used only to distinguish same-named adults in a search you run; we do not resell it, redistribute it in bulk, or use it to build profiles.
10. Indemnity, governing law and disputes
You agree to indemnify and hold OutTruth harmless from claims, damages, and costs arising from your use of the service or your use of information obtained through it, including any claim that your use violated these terms or applicable law.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of laws rules, and disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as coverage and features change; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. Questions: hello@outtruth.com.
