Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 30, 2026
This policy covers what OutTruth collects about you as a user, and how we treat information about the people who appear in public records. OutTruth does not own public-record data — we aggregate records published by government agencies, courts, and licensed data providers, and we cite the source of every entry.
1. What we collect
Search queries. The names, professions, jurisdictions, and optional details (city, county, date of birth, age, username, credential links) you enter are used to run the search and are logged for operation, abuse prevention, and improving matching.
Account data. If you create an account we store your email address and authentication session. If you purchase a report or subscription, Stripe processes your payment; we store only your subscription status and unlock history, never your card number.
Usage data. Standard technical logs (IP address, device/browser type, pages viewed) for security and performance.
2. What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information or search history.
- We do not use your searches to build advertising profiles.
- We do not notify the person you searched. Searches are private to your account.
- We do not use credit files, credit-header data, sealed or expunged records, driver records, or any data obtained by bypassing a login or privacy setting.
- We do not present results — including commercial directory listings — for employment, tenant, credit, or insurance decisions. OutTruth is not a consumer reporting agency.
3. Where result data comes from
Public records. Government agencies, courts, licensing boards, sanction lists, leagues, and public credential platforms. Each result lists the sources checked and links back to them.
Licensed commercial directory data. We also query People Data Labs, a licensed data provider that compiles business/professional profile data — name, job title, employer, city or region, and occasionally a birth year — from publicly available and licensed sources. We use it for one purpose: helping a searcher tell two same-named people apart. These listings are always labeled as unverified directory data, are never treated as a license, certification, or proof of employment, and may be outdated or refer to someone else.
Estimated fields. Where no source publishes an age, a report may show an approximate age range derived from the year a credential was issued. It is labeled as an estimate and is not a published fact.
4. About the people in results
OutTruth indexes and re-presents public records published by government agencies, courts, licensing boards, leagues, and public credential platforms, together with licensed commercial directory listings. We are not the source of that data and cannot correct it at origin. If a result contains an error, the fix must come from the issuing authority, court, or data provider — each result links to the source so it can be verified or disputed there — but we will suppress or correct the entry on OutTruth on request, free of charge. Results may concern a different individual with a similar name; always confirm with the source.
5. Cookies and local storage
We use authentication cookies for sign-in and browser local storage for small preferences — such as your responsible-use acknowledgment and any user-supplied report details you choose to save. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
6. Sharing and disclosure
We share data only with the providers that run the service (hosting, authentication, Stripe for payments, and the search/data providers a query is sent to, including People Data Labs), and only as needed for them to operate. A search sends the name and location you entered to those providers to run the lookup. We may disclose information if required by law, or where misuse of the service appears connected to harassment, stalking, doxxing, or other unlawful conduct.
7. Retention and deletion
Account data is kept while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated search history by emailing hello@outtruth.com. We may retain limited logs where needed for security, fraud, or abuse investigations. Commercial directory results are fetched for a search and are not kept as a standing profile of anyone.
8. Security
Access to your account is protected by authentication, and payment data is handled entirely by Stripe. No system is perfectly secure; use a unique password and sign out on shared devices.
9. Children
OutTruth is not directed at children under 16 and may not be used to search for minors. Do not enter a minor's information.
10. Your privacy rights and removal requests
Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and the UK/EU) you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of the personal information we hold, and to opt out of sale or targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information and do not run targeted advertising.
Anyone who appears in a result may also ask us to suppress or correct that entry, or report a sealed, expunged, dismissed, or resolved case. These requests are always free — we never charge any fee to remove, suppress, correct, or expedite removal of information about a person. We will also suppress a commercial directory listing about you from OutTruth on request, and can tell you how to opt out at the provider so it stops being supplied to anyone. Full instructions: Removal, corrections & privacy requests.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service evolves; the "last updated" date reflects the current version. Questions or requests: hello@outtruth.com.
